Filming for Music Video

Image
This past week was hard for me to find time to film. All the thanksgiving festivities and family time took over. Plus traveling moved over my planned schedules. However, in South Carolina and other places on the road trip I managed to get a few clips in at random times. Meaning, a few locations were added to my plan as I improvised.  The phone conversation scenes - I managed to film a scene of myself doing the act of gossiping on the phone to the other girls include in the video. The setting for this was my bedroom in SC. I used natural lighting from my window and had the camera directly in front of me to film. I had my sister record for me and did multiple shots for more range to chose from. Beach scene - These were very brief clips of the sunset and me at the beach of Myrtle Beach. Because I went around 5:30pm, there wasn't much filming I could do due to it getting dark at 6pm. Great Sights - This is newly added and not planned. While on the road, I seen great bodies of wa...

Planning Storyboard for Music Video

Image
After thorough and difficult planning, I finally put together my storyboard and linked it to timings in the music video. The music video starts off with the me dropping/placing a cherry on top of milkshake because it links directly with what the lyrics are saying. Then switches to a scene with the male character on his phone texting different girls and answering the phone. Afterwards is another direct quote from the lyrics, where I'll place a box of ice-cream and slide in a slice of cake. The next scene is the artist singing along to the song with half of her body in the visual.  In box 5 is a scene of a group of girl friends that are gossiping to each other about boys. They're agreeing with each other and interacting. Next scene is a girl living her best life shopping and being happy without boys. In box 7, its a continuation of girls living their best life but i a different setting. She's at the beach enjoying herself.   Then, another girl or the artist will do a...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Planning is always interesting for me. I love being creative, having lightbulb moments, and thinking out of the box. With this those being pros, there's always the cons of me having too high of expectations, not being realistic, or over exerting myself. For the Music Video project, my song choice is Boys Aint It by SAYGRACE. This falls under the Pop Genre and I want to represent it to the best of my ability. Video Idea: A music video going through a teenage girl or young adult's life or day dealing with boys. Such as girls calling each other to talk about boy issues. A girl at a food establishment or bar having issues with a boy on a date. The "artist" walking outside dressed up singing the song. It'll be similar to most the recent styles of pop videos. Using fun bright colors and energy throughout the video, it'll be a hit. Prop: Most of my props will depend on the scenes and characters. During the cellphone gossip scenes, the props will definitely be phone...

Music Video Conventions

Image
The song I choose was "Boys Aint It," by SAYGRACE. This song falls under the huge, trendy, genre of POP! This genre is most commonly used amongst teens and young adults. Through this many artists get to share their vibe, personality, and emotions while having fun. With its range, Pop music branched out to disco and contemporary R&B. In my song election, it has music breaks of disco beats, lyrics similar to contemporary R&B and the perfect feel of Pop.  Pop music videos usually have these conventions: MISE EN SCENE - Bright colors, Bright lights, Fashionable Clothing, Nice accessories, and Good make-up. PROPS - depends on the artists, their chosen theme, and setting used. VIDEO EDITS - Tints and filters to boost colors, and edits made to artists to seem picture perfect. CHARACTERS - usually sung and performed by women while having both genders integrated in the video. CAMERA SHOTS/ANGLES - close-up scenes on the artists face, wide/long angle shots, tracking the artists...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
Welcome to the beginning of an amazing project. I've been assigned to create a music video for a song of my choice. My instructors have equipped us with a timeline and ways to plan so I believe everything will be awesome! The video has to be 1 minute in total. We were given the option to work in groups however I choose not to. I'm a loner and can become very bossy. For a project like this, I want to be in full charge of the creative process, directing, and producing. I also love my freedom of doing this however I want without needed input or reports from someone else. From picking the song to the days I want to film all depends on me and no one else.  Choosing a song is very hard. I have so much favorites. My top 4 for this project are "Claudia" by FINNEAS, "Boys Aint It" by SAYGRACE, "Backyard Boy" by Claire Rosinkranz  and "Do It" by Chloe x Halle. I 100% love POP and upbeat music which was my automatic choice of genre for this proje...

Sunglass Hut Commercial Reflection

Image
 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  This commercial definitely included known conventions of sunglass commercials. They focus on incorporating a range of people with different styles. Are prone to giving viewers a view of the range of glasses. And primarily aim towards consumers ages 18-32. To appeal to the target age group, they incorporate people of that range.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?  Throughout the commercial I gave many selections of glasses and their styles.  The audience will be engaged by looking through the collections to pick out what their interested in and see what the brand has to offer. This commercial is 30 seconds which is the standard for many platforms. The commercial can be used during TV commercials, YouTube ads, and even TikTok.  3. How did your production skills develop throughout th...

Sunglass Hut Commercial

Image
This is the completed view of the Sunglass Hut Commercial. I, myself am proud of this video and the effort put into it. I filmed so much amazing clips of footage that didn't make the cut for the finale. However, those things led and influenced me to be more creative and selective of what I choose to represent the company. Looking through a critical eye, I definitely see somethings that could be fixed. Mainly the video's ending is what I easily criticized because while watching, it felt crowded and a bit rushed. Other mistakes: Not fully removing water marks Shaky film in parts due to unstable camera holding. Fast instead of smoother transitions. This project was also our class's first actual production. Learning how to navigate different tools to create the commercial was tiring. I wanted to use as much free editing and compiling toots to expand my known methods for edits

Editing my Sunglass Hut Commercial

Image
Finally!! Time to edit and create a masterpiece. Overall I had a good editing experience with this project. When I started editing, I realized that I had SOO much footage and that  30 seconds was a really short time. Meaning a lot of the stuff I originally planned had to get cut. Including scenes that were significant in the storyboard. Other reasons things got cut was because of:  Bad or different lighting Bad angles Main prop wasn't utilized well Didn't follow video theme Terrible acting Once I decided a new plan and incorporated things from the first plan, I was ready to go. I took many shots of sunglasses and I used the app "Lomotif" to make a video compiled of each shot in a sped up duration. Doing this made it have a light switch effect. I also used this method for my intro using the black and white Sunglass Hut logos. Then used this method one more time for the model wearing a variety of glasses. Once those scenes were put into iMovie, they weren't at the...
